Cincinnati Chili

Ingredients

  • 2 lbs. hamburger
  • 1 cup green pepper
  • 1 1/2 cups chopped onion
  • 2 teaspoons miced garlic
  • 8 oz. can tomato sauce
  • 64 oz.tomato juice
  • 1/2 cup chili sauce
  • 1 tablespoon chili powder
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon tumeric
  • 1 teaspoon cumin
  • 1 teaspoon pepper
  • 1/4 or 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon (or sugar if you prefer)
  • 1/2 teaspoon all spice
  • 1/4 teaspoon mace
  • 2 15.5 cans pinto beans
  • 1 liter light kidney beans

    • no chili beans if you use chili sauce

Steps

  1. Chop up meat
  2. Add salt and pepper to meat
  3. In a medium sauce pan or skillet, fry onions, green pepper, garlic, and ground beef (after it's beat up and salt)
  4. In a large kettle put tomato juice, tomato sauce, chili sauce, chili powders, salt, cumin, tumeric, pepper, cinnamon, all spice, and mace.
  5. Bring to a boil.
  6. Add beans - after you drain out all the juice
  7. Add hamburger mix.
  8. Reduce heat after it cooks
  9. Cover and simmer 20 minutes
  10. Simmer, uncovered, an additional 10-20 minutes or until thickened. Make sure you are stirring occasionally.

Notes

  • You can pour it over spaghetti (16 oz. cooked and drained). Use cheese (6 oz. shredded cheddar cheese). Cheese can also go on the chili.
